Slow Pilgrim
I have finally caught up with myself
Someone I have chased my whole life
Like meeting my twin separated at birth
But in truth we were united all along
It’s a classic archetype, I know
Returning home to discover what you already had
One simply has to run far enough away
To appreciate it
I don’t care about being a great artist
But I do want to make great art
One must choose between being praised by others
And loving the making of the artifact
God’s calling is not a mission to accomplish
Vocation is a gift of His love to each and everyone of us
Creativity is more of a process of self-knowledge than self-expression
Guesses are more fun than answers, which is why Rilke said “Live the questions!”
I have finally made peace with myself
Someone I have fought my whole life
Like never winning the lottery
To save me from what I would have become
There’s a higher purpose
Than experiences and memories
And the things we accumulate
All the way
Prayer is an art
A mode of being
All habits are bad habits
When you finally break free
From where I was, I now see where I’m going
It just took me awhile to get here
In fact, I’m a quick learner
But a slow pilgrim
